Quite simply, Agile Project Management is an iterative and incremental method of managing and delivering a project that delivers incrementally throughout the project lifecycle.
More traditional methods of project management, for example PRINCE2, deliver the project at the end of the agreed project term.
With Agile, customers benefit from early delivery and continued incremental delivery throughout the project which makes Agile so appealing. Not only is there early pay back with agile, but as you are delivering the project incrementally, you are also delivering it iteratively which means that lessons are learnt throughout the project and obstacles are foreseen and successfully managed before they become problematic.
That said, Agile is not only Agile by name, it is also Agile by nature and if your organisation currently delivers projects in accordance with other methodologies – fear not – agile can be tailored to work in conjunction with existing procedures to deliver project success.
